The book "Hussain’s Magnet", written by Abbas Abdollahi, has been published by the Baqir al-Ulum Islamic Research and Studies Center. This book provides an analytical study of the largest historical and epic human gathering, which every year during Arbaeen brings together millions of Muslims—and even non-Muslims—from around the world in Karbala and along the path to visit the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).
Imam Hussain (PBUH), the third Shia Imam, was martyred by his enemies in the Battle of Karbala. Arbaeen, the fortieth day after his martyrdom, is commemorated annually by Shia Muslims. According to Muslim belief, visiting Imam Hussain (PBUH) on this day is especially recommended.
Today, the Arbaeen ritual is recognized worldwide, particularly among Muslims. The grandeur of this event is visible in the millions of pilgrims who walk annually from Najaf—the shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH), the first Shia Imam—to Karbala, the shrine of Imam Hussain (PBUH), creating a magnificent display of faith, solidarity, and devotion.
"Hussain’s Magnet" is divided into three chapters that examine various aspects of this ritual: reviewing the historical background of visiting Imam Hussain (PBUH) on Arbaeen, revisiting the significance of visitation in the hadiths narrated from Shia Imams and Islamic scholars, presenting statistics and figures about the vast attendance in the Arbaeen march, and explaining the perspectives of Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the importance and dimensions of this massive gathering.
With an analytical and well-documented approach, "Hussain’s Magnet" explores both the historical and the religious-social meaning of the Arbaeen pilgrimage and demonstrates to the reader why and how Imam Hussain (PBUH) and the Arbaeen rituals act as a powerful magnet, attracting millions of hearts from around the world every year.
