Sinwar wrote this book in 2004 while he was imprisoned by Israel. The original version of this book is in Hebrew, which was later translated into Arabic and then Persian. The main characters of the book are based on the real lives of the Palestinian people, and the stories reflect the realities of the land of Palestine.
The novel Khar va Mikhak tells the life of an individual named Ahmad, who was born in a Palestinian refugee camp and becomes involved with various issues in each chapter of the book. One of the important issues raised in this novel is the life of some Palestinian refugees who are forced to work for Israelis. This issue generates a dual reaction among the Palestinian people; some see working for Israelis as an opportunity to improve the living conditions of themselves and their families, while others consider working for Israeli employers as a betrayal of the Palestinian people. Each character in this novel faces difficult choices. Another narrative in the novel concerns young people who decide to go to Egypt to continue their education. Their passage through Israeli soldiers’ checkpoints and the worry and anticipation of their mothers occupy parts of the book.
