"Aideh": A Narrative of a Lebanese Martyr’s Mother

The book "Aideh", written by Mahbubeh Sadat Razavi-Nia and published by Sooreh Mehr, tells the story of the life of one of the mothers of Hezbollah martyrs in Lebanon.
"Aideh" Sarwar, the mother of Martyr Ali Ismail, a member of Hezbollah in Lebanon, recounts her son’s life from childhood to the day of his martyrdom at the age of seventeen. The book has a documentary-style structure and narrates the life story of a Lebanese woman in a memoir-like, narrative form.

From childhood, "Aideh" was deeply interested in wearing the hijab and engaging in religious activities. Despite strong opposition from her own mother, she wore the chador and, with her religious background, joined Hezbollah. "Aideh" married a member of Hezbollah and had three children, one of whom experienced remarkable spiritual phenomena at the age of seventeen and was eventually martyred. One of Martyr Ali Ismail’s extraordinary signs, mentioned by the author in the preface, is a pleasant fragrance that spread around the northern peak after Ali was shot.

The author traveled to Beirut to interview this martyr’s mother. The interview was conducted in Arabic and transcribed and translated by Mohammad Javad Mahdizadeh, an Iranian researcher and writer proficient in the Lebanese dialect. After the initial compilation of the book, "Aideh" Sarwar traveled to Iran, specifically to Mashhad where the author lives, and stayed until the completion of the writing process. Mahdizadeh was also responsible for providing necessary information for the footnotes regarding people, martyrs, operations, and regions. For this reason, the footnotes in this book may seem somewhat lengthy but they provide comprehensive information for non-Lebanese readers, familiarizing them with the history, geography, events, personalities, and politics of Lebanon.
