The book also chronologically examines and analyzes historical events known as Iran–Contra, McFarlane, and Iran Gate, which occurred between 1364 and 1365 SH. According to historical sources, contacts between Iran and the U.S. began in 1364 SH, and in 1365 SH, James McFarlane, National Security Advisor to Ronald Reagan, secretly traveled to Tehran on a plane carrying weapons. After the exposure of this trip and unsuccessful negotiations, the incident became known in Iran as McFarlane in Iran and in the U.S. as Iran–Contra.
During the Iran–Iraq War, Iran had to procure its weapons through international intermediaries due to sanctions. The Americans conditioned any sale of weapons on Iran using its influence to free hostages in Lebanon, and sent two consignments of weapons to Iran to demonstrate goodwill. Subsequently, one American hostage was released through Iranian mediation, after which McFarlane came secretly to Iran with weapons. The negotiations took place at the Hilton Hotel.
